So for one reason or another you have found yourself in Estherville Iowa. First off avoid the Chinese place, The Mexican place is good when it’s open but Mother Natures should be your staple joint to get some home cookin’ style grub. Now you have a place to eat but where to stay? The Ritz Carlton cannot be found here but there is a Super 8 that will do. The only thing left to decide is what to do in Estherville. Surprisingly Estherville has some secrets. It has a public swimming pool, a ski resort (yes I said ski resort), a nice little park with a crazy cool bridge to cross and it has Ft. Defiance which is located on a large set of hills that have ravines big enough to be called a canyon. Surrounding the Ft. there are plenty of trails to roam under the thick canopy. I saw some deer while I was there. It is a nice refuge from the otherwise flat nature of the area. On top of all of that many many years ago a meteorite hit a corn field just out of town that has a marker that keeps track of where it hit. No if that is not enough not more than 15 minutes away you can find the great lakes of Iowa said to be some of the most beautiful in the world. There you can find many tourist destinations wonderful places to eat and lake side lodging. A little side note on the way there you will pass an abandoned passenger train, I stopped and checked it out and it was worth it. Estherville is not a vacation destination but if you find yourself there I hope some of my helpful hints may make your stay a little bit more desirable. If you are headed there contact me, maybe I can give some sage advice.
