Snow transforms familiar landscapes and can entice curious exploration – or discourage it. Trails that were once easy to follow in other seasons might feel inaccessible, and the cold can sometimes discourage me from getting outside. But when I try a different approach with the right kind of tool, low temperatures and icy conditions open doors to new, energizing experiences. On a recent outing at Valley Forge National Historic Park, I was reminded how effective snowshoeing is for moving through winter landscapes. It doesn’t require specialized skills, and with a little preparation snowshoes make areas that would be out-of-reach most other times of the year more accessible, which inspired this short video.
