Cottonwood Creek Rd is a great unbeaten path for those w/ 4x4 capability. But parts of it have closed from time to time. I recommend checking w/ the park first to confirm the road is open, and if so, which parts. Winter results in closure of a lot of these roads in the area. There is talk about this road eventually being shut down completely.

Fall break in October turned out to be a picture-perfect time to visit the Tetons. No crowds and brilliant colors, all topped off w/ snow-capped peaks surrounding the autumn scenery. If you come here in October the only down side is that a lot of places are closed, such as most of the lodging options inside Yellowstone National Park. Some people don't like the colder temperatures but I loved it. Fresh, crisp air! I might not come back during the busy summer travel season ever again. Sometimes doing something "uncharted" just means going somewhere at a different time than when everyone else is going, and the rewards for doing so can be plentiful as was the case with this trip to Bar BC Dude Ranch in Teton National Park along the Snake River. There is talk of the 4x4 road that you use to get here (Cottonwood Creek Rd.) eventually being shut down completely, so if you want to see this rare history in this remote and scenic spot, get there soon! As I stood here I wondered how many tens of thousands of people just pass by on the main paved strip east of here without ever even realizing this place exists. Another nice uncharted discovery for my family & I in one of my favorite areas of Earth!
